Iliotibial Band (ITB) Friction Syndrome

by Pamela Fioretti, DPT at Moore

What is ITB Friction Syndrome?

Iliotibial Band Syndrome is a common overuse injury most typically caused by repetitive knee bending (flexion) and straightening (extension). The ITB is a thick band of connective tissue that extends from the hip to just below the knee-joint. Therefore, there is an increased risk of irritation along the hip or more commonly, near the knee. The bending and extension motion causes the edge of the ITB to rub across the outer portion of the end of the thigh bone leading to inflammation of the tissue underneath the band. People typically feel a diffuse pain or burning on the outer portion of the knee.

testimonials

I don't know what I would do without Moore.  For 4 years off and on I have been a patient.  Phil Denema is wonderful, not only as a Physical Therapist, but as a person.  Dan is great along with all the other staff.  The office staff is very helpful.  Just great people all around.  My neuropathy is under control and I am feeling GREAT thanks to Moore.
